EJO News August 2014

New editorial board members

Seung-Hak Baek (Seoul National University), M Ali Darendeliler (University of Sydney), Keiji Moriyama (Tokyo Medical and Dental University), Xu Tianmin (Peking University) and Takashi Yamashiro (Osaka University) have been appointed to the Editorial Board of the EJO.

New associate editor

Lorenzo Franchi (University of Florence) has been appointed as associate editor of the EJO.

Beni Solow Award 2013

The Beni Solow award for the best article published in the European Journal of Orthodontics in 2013 has been won by: Raphael Patcas, Luca Signorelli, Timo Peltomäki, and Marc Schätzle from the Clinic for Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, Center for Dental Medicine, University of Zurich, Switzerland and Dental and Oral Diseases Outpatient Clinic, Department of Eye, Ear and Oral Diseases, Hospital and Department of Otolaryngology, Tampere University, Finland for their article ‘Is the use of the cervical vertebrae maturation method justified to determine skeletal age? A comparison of radiation dose of two strategies for skeletal age estimation’ Eur J Orthod 2013 35(5), 604–609.

The award is awarded in honour of the late Danish orthodontist Beni Solow to the best paper published in the EJO during the preceding year. The award is selected by the EJO editorial board (excluding the Editor and Associate Editors) in a two stage process. Firstly, each board member selects his ten best papers (excluding any papers in which the board member is himself or herself an author). The scores are collated and the highest ranked papers are then re-evaluated in round two according to the following criteria: relevance, originality, methodology, presentation of results, discussion and impact.

Condolences following the passing away of Dr Vincent Kokich

European Journal of Orthodontics was saddened and shocked at the news that of Dr Vincent Kokich has passed away. The European Journal of Orthodontics wishes to offer heartfelt condolences to the friends, the colleagues and most importantly the family of Vincent Kokich. Our thoughts and prayers go to you all.

European Journal of Orthodontics enjoyed an excellent, amiable and professional relationship with Dr Kokich as Editor in Chief of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. He will be missed sorely.

In the 2012 Journal Citation Report, the European Journal of Orthodontics’ Impact Factor increased 20% from 0.893 to 1.078, placing it 50 out of 82 journals in the Oral, Surgery & Medicine Category.
