In this monograph, non-extraction treatment philosophy, as well as non-compliance approaches, are summarized, and the clinical management and effectiveness of a non-compliance distalization appliance in Class II treatment, namely the jig assembly, is presented.

In fact, non-compliance of a patient is a serious and common problem in orthodontics and orthodontists often have to deal with this issue. The book starts with an introduction of the problem of non-compliance in orthodontic treatment and continues with a classification of the non-compliance distalization appliances used for the treatment of Class II malocclusions. This classification is presented as a table, and includes information about the authors and manufacturers. In the next chapter, intramaxillary non-compliance distalization appliances are categorized and detailed information about each appliance is presented. In chapter 4, the use of a sectional jig assembly, consisting of active and anchorage units is described. The author shows three Class II division 1 cases (with or without crowding) treated non-extraction using the jig assembly in Chapter 5. Each case is presented with lateral cephalometric and panoramic radiographic images, intraoral and dental cast photographs, and maxillary cephalometric superimposition. In the next chapter, the clinical effectiveness of this appliance is demonstrated and articles published in 2004 and 2005 are reproduced. The findings indicated that the distalization effect on the first and second maxillary molars was approximately 0.37 mm per month and accounted for 46 per cent of the total space created on each side. However, the anchorage unit was unable to resist the reciprocal mesial force of the activated coil spring and this has to be taken into consideration before using this appliance.

Overall, besides detailed information about non-compliance distalization appliances used in Class II orthodontic treatment, this book contains the description of a sectional jig assembly, in which the clinical efficacy was in accordance with the effects of previously reported intraoral distalization appliances.

This book is a useful tool for postgraduate students and clinicians who require information about non-compliance distalization appliances.
