A case report of a severe penetrating ocular injury, which resulted in the loss of the injured eye, following dislocation of a Kloehn bow from an upper removable appliance is reported. The case is unusual in that the injury occurred while the patient was asleep and was probably not due to a catapult injury; in addition the patient unexpectedly developed sympathetic ophthalmitis in the uninjured eye.
